Thank you, Philip! My memories of her are vivid - amazingly so. She was a colossal figure in my childhood.

Léan, that's a lovely, vivid tribute. I was privileged to meet her on at least one occassion.

@Judy, @Deirdre: Oh, that's lovely to hear! The habit of passing on handcrafted things to family and friends seems somehow so precious, though it's presumably still common - and as old as the crafts themselves.

@Deirdre: Sure, you'd get the hang of it in no time. The Mysteries of Knitting are not very profound.

What a beautiful tribute.

I have a lovely knitted cardigan that Andrew's aunt knitted for Eve, and it is so much nicer than any of her shop-bought cardigans that I am thinking I would like to be able to knit things that could be worn by small people. Do you think I'd get the hang of it again? All I remember is plain and purl, so I don't know how I'd even follow pattern...

My husband's mother. whom I loved dearly, was an avid knitter and crocheter also. She knitted many things for my children when the were young. It is such a pleasure to see my grandchildren wear them now. Pearl knitted a series of white cardigan sweaters with multicolor stripes for my older daughter, which her daughter is now in the process of wearing.
