The Oyster tried the bobbin lace that time too, didn't he?

I'm not really keen on that delicate stuff. Tatting seems somewhat "chunkier" to me, which appeals more. I was given a lovely bookmark in a swap. I don't think I ever photographed it. I must dig it up and take a snap.

@Mollydot: I will indeed let you know! Not sure that it'll happen this year or next, though... I remember you trying bobbin lace at the Knitting & Stitching Show - it looked fun, and it's something I've never tried. I was taught to tat by a family friend when I was around eight, and i did a bit, but I never really got the hang of it.

@Eliane: Good to hear that people are on the lookout for creative Irish women!

@Ailbhe: *rubs hands and cackles*

wow, I just discovered your blog by "being in New Zealand" (tiny happy). I have been blogging for about 8 months and always been searching for creative women in Ireland. I have been living in Glengarriff (West Cork) and am more into sewing but I also knit. My profession is aromatherapy which I teach in german language countries and which I write books about. Cheers Eliane

Let me know if you join the Lacemaker's guild - I'm thinking of doing so to, but probably not until I can drive on my own.

I did go to a bobbin lace class there once, but what I really want to do is tatting. Have you tried any other lacemaking?

I taught myself crochet from American books shortly after I took up knitting again. Happy Hooker and a little Vogue Crochet book. It was the Vogue that made it click, but I don't know if it would have been enough on its own. For a while there I preferred crochet to knitting, but I got more confident with the knitting then, and do much more of that than crochet now. Helped by the fact that I dislike a lot of crochet patterns. When it comes to finished pieces, I tend to prefer knitted. But next planned project is a crocheted bag to go with the Be Easy hat & scarf I've made.
